Providing for inmate security, assisting in organizing activities, ensuring gates, doors and rooms are locked, transporting inmates and performing additional tasks as assigned.
Qualified applicants should possess the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:
· knowledge of federal, state and local laws and/or ordinances related to incarceration of persons;
· knowledge of modern corrections procedures, first aid and CPR;
· ability to compile, organize, prepare and maintain records, reports according to department regulations;
· ability to use independent judgment in routine and non-routine situations; and
· ability to use interpersonal communications, observation of behavior of individuals and use of self-defense techniques.
High School Diploma or equivalent required; one year of correctional officer or related experience preferred; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position. Must possess sufficient experience or training to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position. Must possess a valid driver's license. Must pass P. O. S. T. WORK SCHEDULE: Rotating shift schedule
This position is a safety sensitive position; therefore, it will be included in the random drug testing as referred to in the
Athens-Clarke
County Drug and Alcohol Ordinance.

Listed below are additional qualifications that may entitle you to additional increase in salary to the annual entry rate. The maximum increase in the incentives is $2,400:
- College Baccalaureate Degree from an accredited college/university - $2,400
- 4 years of active duty military service - $1,200
- 3 years of active duty military service - $900
- 2 years of active duty military service - $600
- Possess the Georgia Basic Correctional Officer Certification prior to employment - $1,200
