This position is responsible for maintaining jail security; assisting in court security; transporting prisoners; performing necessary functions to ensure the safety and well-being of inmates, employees, and visitors; preserve the peace and enforce laws of the State of Georgia. Qualified applicants must possess and be able to pass the following steps to be considered for employment:
· A High School Diploma or Equivalent (GED) Valid Driver’s License
· 21 years of age or older United State Citizenship
· No Felony Convictions Entry Level Department Test
· P.O.S.T. Entrance Examination Entry Level Physical Ability Test
· Background Investigation including a Criminal History, Driving History Check, Polygraph Exam and Reference Check

Listed below are additional qualifications that may entitle you to additional increase in salary to the annual entry rate. The maximum increase in the incentives is $2,400:
· 2 years of active duty military service - $600
· 3 years of active duty military service - $900
· 4 years of active duty military service - $1,200
· Possess the Georgia Peace Officer Certification prior to employment - $1,200
· Associate Degree in Criminal Justice from an accredited college/technical school
or 90 quarter hours or 60 semester hours - $1,200
· College Baccalaureate Degree from an accredited college/university - $2,400

In addition, a total of $3,000 will be offered as a hiring incentive to be paid in $1,000 increments: $1,000 for completion of satisfactory job performance after 3 months, another $1,000 after 6 months, and the last $1,000 increment with final completion of satisfactory job performance after 12 months of employment.
This is a safety sensitive position; therefore, it will be included in the random drug testing as referred to in the Athens-Clarke County Drug and Alcohol Ordinance. This position is covered under the personnel system and is considered a merit system position.
