This position is responsible for protecting life and property, recognizing and protecting Constitutional rights of citizens, and enforcing federal, state and local laws.
Qualified applicants must possess:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Valid Driver’s License
- 21 years of age
- United States citizenship
- No felony convictions
Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Patrolling assigned locations
- Responding to emergency calls
- Conducting preliminary investigations
- Apprehending offenders
- Providing traffic direction
- Participating in court activities
- Maintaining peace and order in situations that violate or pose a threat to public safety
- Preparing and maintaining documentation/reports
- Providing information/assistance to the general public

SALARY: $32,919 PAY GRADE: 13
Listed below are additional qualifications that may entitle you to additional increase in salary to the annual salary listed above. The maximum increase in the of the incentives is $2,400:
- College Baccalaureate Degree from an accredited college/university - $2,400
- Associate Degree in Criminal Justice from an accredited college/technical school or 90 Qtr/60 semester hours - $1,200
- 4 Years of active duty military service - $1,200
- 3 Years of active duty military service - $900
- 2 Years of active duty military service - $600
- Possess the Georgia Peace Officer Certification prior to employment - $1,200

In addition, a total of $3,000 will be offered as a hiring incentive to be paid in $1,000 increments - $1,000 for completion of a satisfactory job performance after 3 months, another $1,000 after 6 months, and the last $1,000 increment with final completion of a satisfactory job performance after 12 months of employment.
This merit system position requires that the employee satisfactorily completes a probationary period.
This position is a safety sensitive position; therefore, it will be included in the random drug testing as referred to in the Athens-Clarke County Drug and Alcohol Ordinance.
