The purpose of this job is to operate heavy equipment and perform manual work functions associated with construction and maintenance of water/sewer distribution and collection systems. Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to: operating/maintaining heavy equipment; transporting materials and equipment; performing labor activities; and performing additional tasks as assigned.
Qualified must possess:
1. High school diploma or equivalent;
2. Two years construction, heavy equipment operation, maintenance labor, or related experience;
3. Or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position;
4. Must possess a valid driver’s license and the ability to obtain a valid Georgia Commercial Driver’s License within six months of date of hire; and
5. Georgia Department of Transportation Flagging Certification or the ability to obtain such certification.
This position is covered under the personnel system and is considered a merit system position. This position is a safety sensitive position and is included in random drug testing as referred to in the Athens-Clarke County Drug and Alcohol Ordinance.
WORK HOURS: Monday – Friday 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., subject to call back 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.Daylight savings work schedule is 10 hrs per day for four days per week from 7:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
