The purpose of this job is to supervise persons serving misdemeanor probation sentences or participants in a pre-trial intervention program. Work includes, but is not limited to, monitoring all aspects of a probationer’s compliance with reporting, payment of fines and fees, completion of community service work, and completion of required courses, treatment programs and other conditions of probation. Performs other duties as assigned. Please note that this position is partially funded by a federal grant and must be renewed annually based on performance.
Qualified applicants must possess the following:
1. United State Citizenship as required by Georgia Peace Officer Standards and Training
2. High School Diploma or Equivalent (GED)
3. 21 years of age or older
4. Valid Driver’s License
5. No felony convictions
6. Passing score on Entry Level Written Examination
If not Georgia P.O.S.T. certified as a law enforcement officer, must also pass the P.O.S.T. Entrance Examination prior to employment; and pass the ten-week Police Academy to obtain certification within 12 months of date of application to the Academy to maintain employment as a Probation Officer.
Qualified applicants must also have:
1. Completed a two-year college course of study in criminal justice technology (90 quarter hours/60 semester hours), or completed a minimum of two years of criminal justice or political science at a four-year college, or four years of certified law enforcement, investigation or probation supervision experience
2. The ability to meet current requirements set forth in the Georgia Mandate Law Enforcement Training Act/Peace Officers Standards and Training Act; and the Georgia Crime Information Center/National Crime Information Center requirements for inquiry within one year from date of hire.
3. A valid driver's license.
This position requires a twelve-month probationary period. This position is a safety sensitive position and is included in the random drug testing as per the Athens-Clarke County Drug and Alcohol Ordinance. WORK SCHEDULE: Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. with occasional evening, night and/or weekend hours.
