Zoological Park Coordinator

This position requires the completion of both the application form and a questionnaire.
The purpose of this job is to supervise all aspects of the Zoological Park operation. Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to collections management, facility planning, development, evaluating programs and services, preparing reports and budgets, volunteer training, public relations functions, supervising and training assigned employees, preparing long- and short-term goals, instructing classes, coordinating program publicity and performing additional tasks as assigned.
Qualified applicants should possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities:
- Ability to develop and implement long-term goals for Memorial Park in general and the Zoological Park in particular in order to promote effectiveness and efficiency;
- Knowledge of animal capture, wildlife biology and husbandry practices, exhibit construction techniques, basic education techniques, management and human resource practices;
- Skill in the use of animal capture and restraining/tranquilizing equipment, as well as power saws, and assorted hand tools;
- Ability to develop and administer policies, procedures, plans and activities and to monitor performance of subordinates using established goals;
- Ability to use independent judgment and discretion in managing subordinates including the handling of emergency situations, determining and deciding upon procedures to be implemented, setting priorities, maintaining standards, and resolving problem;
- Ability to read, understand and interpret personnel and financial reports and related materials; and
- Mathematical ability to handle required calculations and proficiency with computers.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor's degree in a related field with two years of related experience, including administrative responsibility, experience planning and implementing programs in a natural resources setting including experience in the use of animal immobilization equipment and techniques; and experience in the research and formulation of diets for captive wildlife required; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Must possess a valid driver's license. Must be certified in First Aid/CPR or have ability to attain within 60 days of employment. See job description for further details.
WORK SCHEDULE: Generally Tuesday – Saturday, or Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:30p.m.; Weekend and Holiday work sometimes necessary according to programming/special events.
